Azure Files previews NFS vaulted backup, snapshot rollback and cross-region copy

Microsoft Azure Storage Blog · 3 Nov 2026

Three Azure Files resilience capabilities enter public preview, with participation sign-up linked in Microsoft’s announcement:

  • Vaulted backup extends isolated recovery points to NFS shares through Azure Backup, supporting retention and immutable backup strategies.
  • Revert Snapshot rolls an SMB share back in place while retaining its endpoint and mount path; NFS support is planned.
  • Storage Mover copies and incrementally synchronizes SMB shares across accounts, regions and subscriptions within the same tenant; NFS support is coming later.

The capabilities address different recovery needs: operational rollback, secondary copies and protected backups. The announcement retains preview status and does not establish NFS availability for the latter two capabilities.
