Microsoft publishes an MCP operations layer for Azure VM image pipelines
Microsoft’s new implementation guide adds a focused MCP operations interface for Azure VM image pipelines built with Packer, Azure DevOps and Azure Compute Gallery.
Engineers can inspect recent runs, status and release evidence from GitHub Copilot Chat in Visual Studio Code.
The sample exposes three read-only tools and a guarded pipeline-queueing tool, disabled by default and requiring explicit confirmation when enabled. Azure DevOps permissions, approvals and checks remain authoritative.
Microsoft provides local implementation and validation steps, while recommending least privilege and stronger production authentication and operational controls before remote hosting.
This is an implementation guide rather than a newly generally available managed service.
