Azure SRE Agent guide explains reader-only IIS investigation

Microsoft Apps on Azure Blog · 5 Nov 2026

Microsoft has published a reader-only investigation guide for IIS workloads on Azure VMs.

Administrators configure telemetry collection, Azure Monitor Agent sends evidence to Log Analytics, and Azure SRE Agent reads that evidence and recommends fixes for the team or its deployment pipelines to execute.

The guide distinguishes built-in Azure metrics and activity information from guest evidence that must be collected, including IIS logs, Windows events, performance counters and configuration changes.

In this setup the investigator cannot inspect uncollected guest files, run live connectivity checks or change the server. Missing evidence limits diagnosis and should be reported explicitly.
